A Clucking Good Channel

Chickens…The first step towards sustainable living!

I believe the first step toward living more sustainably is owning your own chickens and it looks like I’m not alone in this belief. An ever-increasing number of like-minded souls are making that first step in taking control of their own food supply, investing in a small flock of poultry and thereby knowing exactly what has gone into producing their breakfast eggs.

However; hens, despite producing one on the most nutritious foods on the planet are seen as a low value commodity. Poultry vets are often unwilling to work outside commercial flocks and the number of chicken friendly vets that actually understand chickens is very limited. A hen can cost as little as £10 from a hen rehoming group and thus the cost of a visit to a vet @ £20 for a 10-minute appointment and multiples thereof is often not an option, even where a reasonably local vet is available.

Vets rarely receive extensive poultry training, and if they get any, it’s minimal at best - even farm vets rarely see chickens. Chicken anatomy and physiology are different from other birds; even most avian veterinarians aren’t trained to treat chickens. And so, unlike keeping other types of animals, chicken keepers ordinarily find it is up to them to provide medical care for sick or injured birds.

A Clucking Good Channel

I constantly see chicken keepers asking for advice in chicken groups on the simplest of matters. So, to this end I’ve recently set up a YouTube channel called “A Clucking Good Channel” aimed at improving hen welfare through posting informative videos to help back yard chicken keepers to provide a better quality of care to their chickens.

The videos will cover best practice in backyard chicken keeping looking subjects like coop and run set-up's, through to treat at home ailments and remedies. As new videos are created, they will be added to the channel.

If you would be so kind as to visit the channel and subscribe it really would help the channel to get off the ground. As a new channel in this day and age, it needs all the help it can get…

My videos are funded by people like you. If you enjoy them and would like to help make more, you can support the channel with a one off donation at:
