The Egg Factory
On this page you'll find everything to sell your fresh egg to your friends and neighbours or advertise at your gate (Farm Gate Sales).

With consumers increasingly waking up to the concentration camp like conditions and barbaric practices that egg producers inflict upon their laying hens and the continued support of these companies by supermarkets, the market for backyard eggs is increasing.

You can sell your eggs informally to friends and neighbours without registering as an egg producer if you have fewer than 350 birds. You do not need to register with the Animal and Plant Health Agency (APHA).

"Farm gate" sales only: This means selling eggs directly from your property to consumers, not to shops or restaurants.
Labelling requirements: Even for small-scale sales, you should label your eggs with a best-before date (usually 4 weeks from the date laid).
Cannot use graded terms: When selling directly to consumers, you cannot label your eggs as "small," "medium," or "large".

A note of caution...you shouldn't use the terms "free-range" or "organic" unless you meet the relevant criteria.

However, you must register if you want to:
-
Sell eggs to shops, restaurants, or catering outlets
-
Sell eggs at local public markets if you have more than 50 birds
